Le nom est surtout porté dans l'Orne. On le rencontre dans le Nord sous les formes Pringal, Pringalle. Sens incertain. M.T. Morlet y voit l'ancien français parigal, paringal (= semblable, parfaitement égal), ce qui semble assez logique, mais on a du mal à comprendre le sens du surnom.
